SnowCap food pantry got a major donation of tasty sauce from The Yoshida Group.

What do you do when you’ve created a beloved sauce? For Junki Yoshida and The Yoshida Group, its donate hundreds of bottles to a local nonprofit food pantry dedicated to feeding the hungry across East Multnomah County.

Wednesday, Aug. 2, Yoshida’s team donated more than 14,000 pounds of sauce, made locally in Oregon, to SnowCap Community Charities. Those bottles will soon be a tasty addition to the offerings found at the largest food pantry in East Multnomah County.

“We appreciate (The Yoshida Group) for caring about our community and are so excited to get these delicious sauces to our families,” SnowCap wrote in a thank you post.

SnowCap provides food and resources to residents from Gresham, East Portland, Troutdale, Fairview, Wood Village and unincorporated East Multnomah County. And the number of clients they serve is mind-boggling — with food to more than 10,000 people a month. There is no “type” of person who visits SnowCap.

The nonprofit pantry feeds folks on fixed incomes, like the disabled or elderly; single parents; people with an unexpected medical bill; or anyone laid off or between jobs.

“It is just people like us who have hit a rough patch,” said Kirsten Wageman, SnowCap executive director.

SnowCap thrives off donations, not just during its holiday Fill-A-Bag fundraiser, but year-round. Any amount of support, be it boxes of delicious sauce, canned goods, volunteer hours, or a few dollars, makes a big difference.
