Cargo space is not a problem in the all-new 2017 Volvo V90 Cross Country.

Volvo delivered an early look at its 2017 V90 Cross Country station wagon this week. The Cross Country is the fourth vehicle to be built on the new full-size 90-series chassis, following last year’s XC90 SUV, and the S90 sedan and V90 wagon introduced earlier this year.

The V90 Cross Country includes Volvo’s advanced on-demand all-wheel-drive system and the latest in Volvo’s Drive-E engine designs. The Drive-E engines are 2.0-liter 4-cylinders, with a turbocharged T5 base model at 240 horsepower, and an upgraded T6 engine that is both turbocharged and supercharged at 316 horsepower. The V90 Cross Country will be offered only with the more powerful engine.

The V90 Cross Country uses an 8-speed automatic transmission, and rides a little more than a half-inch higher than a conventional V90 wagon. Extra bodywork protection for the wheel wells and rocker panels is included, along with a special off-road driving mode that changes the traction and stability control settings to offer better control on gravel or dirt road surfaces.

Fuel economy figures for the V90 Cross Country have not been stated, but the comparable S90 sedan achieves EPA-rated economy of 22 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway. The 2017 Volvo V90 Cross Country starts at $56,295, and is expected in dealerships this winter.
