The expansion of goods delivery with membership-based Shipt is available here now

Another big-box retailer is making changes — and deals — to stay relevant in the current age of delivery and online shopping.

Shipt, a membership-based delivery service, began delivering from Targets to Portland residents on April 17.

Target acquired Shipt in December 2017, and so Portland residents can now have their groceries, electronics, home goods, toys and more — with access to 55,000 items — delivered.

After its acquisition, Shipt began moving into same-day delivery. It is currently available to more than 30 million households across 100 markets in the U.S., and it gives members the ability to browse, search and shop the in-store assortment of products online.SUBMITTED: SHIPT - Membership-based Shipt is now delivering goods from Target in the Portland area.

Founded in Birmingham, Alabama, in 2014, Shipt's customers can choose a one-hour delivery window and pay for their order all within the app.

In the Shipt app, members can also select additional retailer options for delivery in available areas. Shipt plans to add 1,150 Shipt shoppers to the Northwest area, who will be responsible for selecting, bagging and delivering each order.

"Shipt is expanding our footprint by bringing the convenience of personalized, same-day delivery to residents in each of these Northwest metro areas," said Bill Smith, founder and CEO of Shipt. "Through the app, our members have access to everything they need, when they need it, right at their fingertips. This is just the beginning of the sweeping expansion that Shipt and Target have planned for the year."

The launch gives more than 2 million households in the Northwest access to Target and Shipt.

Other cities Target is expanding Shipt to include Eugene; Boise, Idaho; Seattle and Spokane Washington. The Idaho and Washington launch dates were April 19.

The majority of Target stores will offer the service by the 2018 holiday season, and by the end of the year it will be in nearly 180 markets, reaching 80 million household — or close to 65 percent of U.S. households.

By the end of 2019, same-day delivery will include all major product categories at Target.

"Same-day delivery was at the top of our list when we were thinking about ways to make shopping at Target even easier," said John Mulligan, executive vice president and COO at Target. "Shipt's personalized, customer-focused approach fits perfectly with our commitment to deliver a convenient, exceptional experience and we're excited to begin offering same-day service across the Northwest."

Target is based in Minneapolis and has 1,826 stores.

To celebrate the launch, new Shipt members who signed up beforehand received and annual membership for $49 instead of $99. The annual membership grants access to free, unlimited delivery on orders over $35.

Leading up to the expansions, Shipt will add more than 1,150 Shipt shopper jobs across the Northwest to be part of the team responsible for ensuring complete, accurate fulfillments of each order. To apply to be a Shipt shopper, visit and click "Get Paid to Shop."
