Live music, dance lessons, art demonstrations on tap at monthly event

Community members and visitors are invited to continue the Independence Day celebrations as the city of Beaverton hosts its next First Friday on July 5 in the city’s downtown area until 8 p.m.

Presented by the Beaverton Downtown Association, the monthly event includes live entertainment, refreshments, art demonstrations, dancing and a family-friendly atmosphere.

Arthur Murray Dance Studio, 4690 S.W. Watson St., kicks off the night with a dance demonstration and tour of the studio. They will also provide information about the evening’s events and participating businesses, which will also have First Friday flags displayed outside.

At 9:15 p.m., after the First Friday festivities, the public is invited back to join Arthur Murray Dance Studio for a patriotic-themed party.

The band Riverside Northwest will perform on Southwest Broadway Street, near Beaverton Kia, and Swingset Quartet will sing its way through the downtown streets. In addition, Costume Avenue will showcase its inventory as costumed employees greet visitors and offer special deals at their shop.

“The First Friday events are a fun way to experience what Beaverton’s downtown has to offer,” said Mayor Denny Doyle. “With so many activities and exciting entertainment, there’s truly something for everyone.”

First Fridays for the remainder of the year will be held Aug. 2, Sept. 6 and Oct. 4. Participating businesses include restaurants, salons, a dance studio, a healing center, coffee shops, a costume store, and many specialty shops.

The business association and First Friday events are partially sponsored by a grant through the city of Beaverton’s Main Street Program.
