Certified insurance agents will help enrollees as 2014 deadline approaches

A Cover Oregon enrollment open house event for those seeking to apply and enroll in the health-care plan in one sitting will be held tonight (Monday) from 4 to 8 p.m. at the BESThq business center in the Taggarts building, 12745 S.W. Beaverdam Road, two blocks southwest of the Beaverton Central MAX light-rail station.

This is the final week for those wanting to apply for health insurance through Cover Oregon, and avoid a potential federal tax penalty for not having health insurance in 2014.

Working with a Cover Oregon-certified insurance agent at this event, Oregon residents can apply online and enroll in a health plan and see if they qualify for a tax credit to lower their premium. Most purchasing private plans do qualify for the tax credit.

People will need the following information for the application:

• Social Security number, if they have one

• Noncitizen ID number, if applicable

• Income documents or self-employment records if recent income amounts are unknown, and

• Insurance plan information for any current health coverage or insurance available through an employer (for each person on the application)

Registration is appreciated but not required. Walk-ins are welcome.
