City's inclusion manager

offers DACA information

Beaverton's Cultural Inclusion Program Manager Alexis Ball highlighted the concerns about the repeal of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, also known as the DACA program, at the Tuesday, Sept. 12 Beaverton City Council meeting.

Ball said her program was available as a resource and can help with questions that arise as a result of DACA concerns. She said on the national level, a recent decision by the Trump administration to rescind DACA affects some 800,000 people nationwide who are currently enrolled in the program; 11,000 of those are in Oregon.

In six months the DACA permits will begin to expire, Ball said.

Summer reading program

at library called success

At the Tuesday, Sept. 12, Beaverton City Council meeting, Library Director Abigail Elder said the summer reading program has been a big success, with 5,474 children, 2,104 teens and 600 adults participating.

There were more than 100 programs throughout the summer, Elder said.

Beaverton now seeking

volunteers for boards

Many City of Beaverton committees and boards are seeking people to serve one- to three- year terms, which start in January. The deadline to apply is Monday, Oct. 2.

City policy says boards and commissions should represent the full-range of diversity in the community.

The city is looking for people interested in public decision-making and civic life to apply for openings on the city's boards, commissions, and special committees. These are appointed positions and city residents are preferred.

Beaverton brewer slated

for Portland Hops Fest

Little Beast Brewing of Beaverton will feature its Fresh Hop Fera at the Portland Fresh Hops Fest.

Little Beast will be among nearly 70 Oregon breweries to take part in the annual celebration of the Oregon hop harvest, serving beers made with hops freshly picked off the vine and used within hours of harvesting.

The 14th annual Portland Fresh Hops Fest will take place Sept. 29 through 30 at Oaks Amusement Park, 7805 S.E. Oaks Park Way. Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday and noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Week's events honor

Beaverton restaurants

The first-ever Beaverton Restaurant Week takes place from Sept. 28 to Oct. 8. It is a celebration of the diverse and independent restaurants in downtown Beaverton.

Every participating restaurant will offer a special dish that normally isn't on the menu. Those who COURTESY PHOTO - Beaverton's Restaurant Week. visit a participating restaurant during Beaverton Restaurant Week may order the special dish, or order off the regular menu.

Diners can win gift certificates to participating restaurants in the Beaverton Restaurant Week Instagram contest.

More than 25 downtown restaurants are participating. Some restaurants are open for breakfast, lunch or dinner only, so participants should check listings before planning a visit.
