MLK weekend brings school volunteer events
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 15, the upcoming long weekend will include scores of volunteering opportunities throughout the Portland area — including three chances to help Beaverton School District schools.
A volunteer event at 1 p.m. Friday at Scholls Heights Elementary School will focus on helping teachers prepare for upcoming events and projects, and keep their classrooms well-organized.
Also at 1 p.m. Friday, volunteers at William Walker Elementary can help clean out a classroom, in preparation for the demolition and rebuild planned as part of the Beaverton School District's 2014 bond measure construction projects.
Finally, Fir Grove Elementary will host a community indoor and outdoor cleaning and maintenance session at 8 a.m. Saturday morning. Tasks will include ivy and weed pulling, trash pick-up and window cleaning.
