Preliminary step toward approval and construction; completion date for $35 million project is 2020.

The public is invited to an open house for the design of the planned Public Safety Center.

The open house is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at Bridge Meadows Beaverton, 5995 SW Menlo Drive. Refreshments are available.

The project team of Shiels Obletz Johnsen, FFA Architecture & Interiors, and Skanska Construction is at work on the new center, which will be built on city-owned property at Southwest Allen and Hall boulevards. The site is occupied by the Beaverton Activities Center.

Construction is planned to start late this year and be completed in 2020.

City voters approved a $35 million bond issue in 2016 to build an earthquake-resistant center to house police and emergency management.
