The star of 'Wicked' and the 'The Music Man' does a brief promo for Beaverton High's production of 'The Music Man.'

COURTESY OF MICHAEL SHAFER-MONTGOMERY - Kristin Chenoweth gives a 'shout out' for the upcoming performance of 'The Music Man' set for Beaverton High School. After having the star-studded appearances of Olivia Newton John and Lin-Manuel Miranda to promote Beaverton High School's annual spring musicals, this year's plug comes from actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth.

In a GoFundMe promotion to support the annual musical, Chenoweth appears for a quick spot to promote the drama department's production of "The Music Man" March 7-10.

She says, "Hi Beaverton, I hear you guys are doing 'The Music Man. I was in that for ABC a long, long time ago with Matthew Broderick and I just want to say, 'enjoy that beautiful, beautiful show.'"

For the last three years, the promos for the musicals have been the brainchild of Michael Shafer-Montgomery, a Beaverton High School theater alumnus who also is chairman of the James N. Erickson Legacy Project, a group dedicated to the memory of the late Beaverton High director.

"I reached out to Kristin's agent," said Shafer-Montgomery. "I have met her several times in the last 15 years."

Chenoweth is notable too for her performance in Broadway's "Wicked."

Speaking of "Wicked," 1995 BHS graduate and Broadway star Shoshana Bean will return to Beaverton High School on Wednesday, March 21, for a fundraiser in conjunction with the release of her new CD, "Spectrum." Bean previously played the role of  HYPERLINK "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elphaba"Elphaba in the  HYPERLINK "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadway_theatre"Broadway production of "Wicked."

Proceeds from Bean's appearance will benefit the BHS Performing Arts Department, said Shafer-Montgomery. That includes both the choir and drama departments.

Two years ago, Shafer-Montgomery had Olivia Newton John promote the school's performance of "Grease" and last year it was Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman, the two award-winning composers of "Catch Me If You Can," who promoted that same musical complete with a cameo by Miranda.

However, this year, Beaverton High School has added another spring musical, "Heathers," set for May 9-12. Both musicals are under the direction of Shannon Dery.
