Samuel Harris Corbett, 37, of Washington County is accused of chasing, yelling at 17-year-old black girl.

The incident occurred at 4:43 p.m. Monday, July 9, near Southwest Tualatin Valley Highway and Murray Boulevard. According to police, Samuel Harris Corbett, 37, threatened physical violence against the 17-year-old, who lives in Beaverton. Witnesses said Corbett pursued her in the roadway as he was making threats of physical harm and using racial slurs. Witnesses told officers they put themselves between Corbett and the victim to stop him from continuing to pursue her.

Witnesses stated the victim was able to seek shelter in an ampm convenience store while witnesses blocked him from entering the business.

Corbett lives in unincorporated Washington County. He was taken to Washington County Jail and charged with second-degree intimidation, menacing, second-degree disorderly conduct and harassment.

Beaverton Police Department have thanked community members for getting involved to help the victim, citing this as a case involving intimidation.

"This type of crime won't be tolerated in our community, which is evident by the response from our community members," Monger said. "Thank you for standing up against racism."

A Beaverton Police Victim Advocate has reached out to the victim and her family to provide services.
