Tigard Mayor John L. Cook takes ALS Ice Bucket ChallengeTigard Mayor John L. Cook took a few minutes out of his vacation, Thursday, to take the Ice Bucket Challenge, the viral marketing campaign to raise money to cure Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gherig’s disease.

For weeks, videos of people dousing themselves in icy water have taken over social media. The campaign is the most successful ALS fundraiser in history, netting more than $41.8 million since July, according to the ALS Association.

Cook was nominated for the challenge by Beaverton Mayor Denny Doyle, who was doused on Wednesday. Doyle challenged every Washington County mayor, as well as U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley and U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, to donate to the ALS Association and post a video of themselves taking the challenge.

In a short video posted to his Facebook page on Thursday, Cook did some nominating of his own, calling on Tigard City Manager Marty Wine, and two others, to take the plunge next.
