Former Canby area resident Jacqueline Wiles finished 26th out of 39 Wednesday in her first alpine skiing women’s downhill competition at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.

The 2010 Canby High School graduate finished with a time of 1:44.35 in the races at Krasnaya Polyana, Russia

She was one of four Americans competing in the event. The fastest time turned in by the Americans was Julia Mancuso's 1:42.56 for an eighth place finish.

Next came Laurenne Ross with 1:42.68 for 11th place and Stacey Cook with 1:43.05 to finish 17th.

The gold medal went to both Tina Maze, of Slovenia, and Dominique Gisin, of Switzerland, who turned in identical times of 1:41.57 in the first gold medal tie in an Olympic Alpine skiing race.

Lara Gut, of Switzerland, placed third for bronze with her 1:41.67 time.

Next up for Wiles will be the women's Super-G on Saturday.
