Suspect diverted clerk's attention with something else, then used smash-and-grab technique to lift three vintage pistols

The theft took place about 1:30 p.m. at the Main Street Mercantile, said Pete Marcellais, the sheriff’s deputy assigned to the city of Aurora.

The man sent a store clerk to check on the price of an antique knife, Marcellais said. While the employee was away, the man broke the locks to a trophy case and stole the three vintage pistols valued at more than $5,000.

Marcellais described the man as white, in his 40s, heavy set, 5’10” to 6 feet tall, brown hair and wearing an Ohio State Buckeyes cap.

Anyone knowing the suspect, his location or the location of the guns should call the Marion County Sheriff’s Office at 503-588-5032. Callers can remain anonymous.
