Letter to Canby Herald Editor John Baker from the week beginning May 29, 2017

STOCK IMAGE - Pamplin Media GroupCanby High School's leadership class treated Canby seniors to a special night of dancing to '50s, '60s and Glen Miller music at the high school cafeteria last week and what a night it was.

The students had decorated the area, lights were low, music was playing, cookies, cheese, punch and other goodies were placed on tables for all to enjoy.

Boys in the class made certain all senior ladies did not just sit and listen to the dance music; rather, they sauntered toward single ladies, proffered their hands, and swung the gal onto the dance floor.

No one left without dancing multiple times to songs reflecting our era. These kids had been well-trained and made the single ladies feel as if they were not just coming for the music.

All the students in attendance mingled with us old-timers to make it a special and memorable evening for all. Their teacher as well as the students left an indelible impression on all and we left feeling as if these teenagers genuinely wanted us to recall our prom long after the lights dimmed.

Kudos to the leadership class and the teacher for allowing us to feel youthful and rejuvenated for this extraordinary night.
