East County resident Ira James 'Jim' Clausen, 84, died Saturday, Aug. 5. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Fremont United Methodist Church, 2620 N.E. Fremont St., Portland.

Jim was born Aug. 19, 1921, in Indian Valley, Idaho, to Thomas and Eva (Buzzard) Clausen. He was raised and educated in Idaho, where he graduated from Payette High School in 1939.

On Nov. 3, 1940, he married his high school sweetheart, Merle Ward, in Payette, Idaho. She preceded him in death on April 21, 1996.

Jim enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served on the USS Tutuila. He was discharged in 1946.

He moved to East County and worked as an electrician and foreman from 1946-82 at Reynolds Metals in Troutdale.

Jim was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cherry Blossom Seniors, Yuma SnowBirds and the Over the Hill Club.

Jim married Regina Harris on July 9, 1997.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife, camping, rock hounding and gardening.

Survivors include his son, James Clausen of Roll, Ariz.; daughter, Joanne Poff of Portland; stepsons, Richard Harris, David Harris and Daniel Harris of Portland and Michael Harris of Spokane Wash.; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
