Tickets are on sale for Lake Oswego's first football game of the season, which will be played next Friday, Sept. 1, at PGE Park against Bothel, Wash.

The contest is considered an endowment game, which means Lake Oswego will be allowed to play 10 regular-season games this year rather than the normal nine-game season.

The key is that one-half of the proceeds from all tickets purchased through Lake Oswego High School will be returned to the high school's general fund. Those tickets will be available through next Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the school's main office. That office will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on those days.

This should be another good year for the Lake Oswego football team, which has advanced to at least the state quarterfinals in each of the last five seasons. Over the last six years, the Lakers have compiled a 65-12 record.

During his 14 years as Lake Oswego's head coach, Steve Coury, has compiled a 113-44 mark. Eleven of those teams made the state playoffs and the Lakers won or shared the Three Rivers League championship four times; and there were two trips to the state championship game (in 2002 and 2004).

Bothel, meanwhile, finished 7-3 last year and tied for third place in the 4A Kingco Conference.
