VOLLEYBALL - Centennial loses twice in three-way
by: David Ball, Corbett's Mallory Spanjer goes up for a block in the middle of the net during the Cardinals' sweep against DeLaSalle on Thursday night.

Corbett's volleyball team streaked past DeLaSalle in straight games Thursday night, picking up a 25-16, 25-14, 25-13 win.

The Cardinals used a 13-point run behind the serving of setter Heather Anderson to take control of Game One, then added other long spurts by Mallory Spanjer to win Games 2 and 3.

'It's always a little shaky when you're seeing a team for the first time,' Anderson said. 'They got a few points on us, but we hit that run and it gave us the momentum the rest of the way.'

Caitlin Spanjer paced Corbett with a team-best 11 kills, while Anderson had seven aces.

The Cardinals converted their first match point when Catherine Jones converted a kill from the left side.

In Mount Hood Conference action, Centennial dropped a hard-fought five-game battle against David Douglas and was swept 3-0 against St. Mary's. The Blues picked up their first league wins and improved to 2-2.

Look for expanded volleyball coverage in the Saturday, Sept. 16, issue of the Gresham Outlook.
