The Barlow boys soccer team used a strong finish to blow past rival Gresham 5-0 on Thursday night.

The Bruins peppered the net throughout the first half, but had only one goal to show for it at halftime. Barlow dialed in during the intermission and found the net four times through the final 40 minutes.

Italian exchange-student Alberto Frasco sealed the victory for Barlow when he charged forward, stole the ball off a defender's foot, worked himself free with a quick dribble and beat the goalie with a hard shot inside the far post.

'I could see that he was unsure, so I rushed at him with all my speed,' Frasca said. 'I stole the ball and put it into the top corner.'

The goal gave Barlow an insurmountable 3-0 lead with 23:50 to play.

In other Mount Hood Conference boys action, Jacob Johnson scored twice to lift Centennial past David Douglas 4-2.

The girls opened the Mount Hood season Thursday night with Barlow scoring twice in the last three minutes to earn a 2-2 tie against Central Catholic. Sandy converted a penalty kick with 20 seconds left to give the Pioneers a 2-2 tie with David Douglas. Centennial doubled up Hood River 4-2, taking the lead in the final minute of the first half.
