Work that began today, Aug. 2, to prepare Southwest Multnomah Boulevard for repaving between Southwest 45th and Southwest 31st avenues is slowing traffic in both directions of the road.

Work hours are 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Motorists should expect delays during construction. Both lanes are open after work hours.

The contractor began grinding off existing pavement Aug. 2. The work is closing one lane of Southwest Multnomah Boulevard at Southwest 45th Avenue. Flaggers are directing traffic through the intersection in a single lane in alternating directions. Construction crews are working east to Southwest 31st Avenue. Pavement grinding will last through this Friday, Aug. 5.

The same traffic restrictions will be in place starting Aug. 8 when paving begins. Paving should take five days to complete.

The pavement restoration is the final phase of a project to replace the Multnomah Boulevard section of the Fanno Pressure Sewer.
