Gaston principal takes job in Tigard-Tualatin district

Tiffany Wiencken, principal of Gaston Elementary School for the last two years, has resigned to take a principal post in the Tigard-Tualatin School District. Wiencken, hired by the Gaston district in 2009, will be principal of Tigard-Tualatin's Deer Creek Elementary in the fall. Her replacement for 2011-12 is expected to be announced this week by Gaston administrators.

Cut-A-Thon seeks volunteers

Bliss Hair Salon is looking for volunteers to help with Snips For Schools, a cut-a-thon to raise money for Forest Grove schools and the Family Resource Center. The cut-a-thon will be Sunday, Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2406 Pacific Ave., in the parking lot of Bliss and Dutch Bros. Haircuts, a barbecue, raffle, music and entertainment will all be part of the event. Call Tracy Weaver at 503-357-3300 for details.

Forest Grove school start dates set

The first day of school for students in grades 1-5, 7, 9 and those new to the Forest Grove School District is Wednesday, Sept. 7.

The first day of school for all students is Thursday, Sept. 8. For more information, log on to or check with individual schools for kindergarten start dates.

Community School enrollment open

Forest Grove Community School, a free public charter school, is accepting enrollment applications for the 2011-12 school year for students entering first through eighth grades.
