Forest Grove High School's 2006 Homecoming queen and princesses will ride atop a 28-foot sailboat in Friday's parade, an annual tradition.

Vanessa Betancourt was crowned Homecoming queen and Matthew Winterbourne Homecoming king Monday night. Both are seniors at FGHS.

Princesses are Tracy Zapf and Amanda Thompson. Princes are Brooks Baumgartner and Justin Marble.

The parade gets under way at 3:30 p.m. in front of the school district administration office, 1728 Main St. The route winds north on Main Street, turns left onto 26th and continues past Harvey Clarke Elementary School on B Street to the high school.

'It's going to be a great parade, with 32 different floats or groups of students,' said Howard Sullivan FGHS activities director. New this year are entries from Neil Armstrong Middle School and Cornelius, Echo Shaw and Tom McCall elementary schools.

Cars, trucks, flatbeds, tractors and go-carts are all expected to join the parade. More than 200 students signed up to build floats Friday at the district office in preparation for the parade.

A tailgate party will follow the parade from 4-6 p.m. in the high school parking lot. Music and food will be part of the festivities, hosted by the high school track team, Sullivan said.

The Homecoming football game is at 7 p.m. Friday night, when the Viking gridders take on the Newberg Tigers. Court members will be formally presented at halftime.

Rounding out Spirit Week is Saturday's Homecoming dance, scheduled for 8-11 p.m. in the high school commons area.
