by: David F. Ashton, By sounding her gong, volunteer Mary Magdic signals the opening of the 2012 season of the Moreland Farmers Market as manager Adam Seidman rings the ceremonial cowbell.

In the Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home parking lot, the Moreland Farmers Market returned on Wednesday afternoon, May 9, signaling the start of its seventh season.

'With a great lineup of vendors, and sunshine too, one couldn't ask for a better day at the market,' smiled Market Manager Adam Seidman, who is beginning his first full year supervising the market.

'We'll have between 30 and 40 vendors each week,' Seidman promised. '30 are here today; it's a good sign.'

The market will continue to offer a wide variety of products, he added. 'You'll find everything from gourmet dog treats, to wood-fired pizza, crepes, and Mexican prepared food, flowers - along with a wide array of fresh vegetables, wine, meats, seafood. You could do your entire grocery shopping for the week right here.'

What makes the market possible, Seidman added, is the crew of volunteers. 'We draw from a pool of 60 people - about 20 of whom come to set up and take down the market in any given week.'
