by: SUBMITTED - Ava Creasy of Lake Oswego will perform with the Portland Youth Rock Orchestra in its season finale June 15.The Portland Youth Rock Orchestra is preparing to rock out at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts with a concert on June 15 at 7:30 p.m. The music is loud, joyful and beautifully played by students ranging in age from 7 to 23. This will be the orchestra's season finale and includes a diverse collection of classic rock hits and classical masterworks.

Founded by Portland-based guitar master and educator Brent Gunter, PYRO provides students with focused musical training in classic rock and orchestral literature.

The orchestra consists of three different orchestra levels, and all will perform in the concert Friday, June 15. The Young Chamber Rock Orchestra comprises children at the beginning level; the Junior Rock Orchestra is for intermediate-level musicians; and the Youth Rock Orchestra is for advanced players.

Several are from Lake Oswego and West Linn, including 12-year-old Ava Creasy of Lake Oswego.

For Creasy, the mood is electric as she and some 50 local musicians from all skill levels will be rocking out to the music ranging from Led Zepplin and the Kinks to Beethoven and Vivaldi.

Creasy has been playing the viola for two years and practices three to four times a week.

PYRO is scheduling auditions for the 2012-2013 season at locations around Portland. Electric guitarists, drummers, bassists, strings and all traditional orchestra musicians ages 7 through 23 are encouraged to audition.
