Fundraising and playing with class are trademarks the new athletic director hopes to instill at Sandy
by: David Ball Scott Maltman has served for more than a decade in the Oregon Trail School District and is a former high school basketball coach.

Scott Maltman returns to the Athletic Director's chair at Sandy High School after spending the last two school years as principal at Firwood Elementary.

Maltman, who also held the position in 2008, hopes to bring stability to the position, which has been a revolving door despite the school's move into a new conference last year along with the building of a new campus set to open in 2012. Maltman will also be in charge of middle school athletics.

He takes over for last year's A.D. Matt Newell, who took a principal position at Cedar Ridge Middle School.

'There has been tremendous turnover and that makes it tough on all our programs,' Maltman said. 'Thankfully, we've been able to keep many of the same coaches through that time, and they're the ones who have really held things together.'

Maltman has also worked as Sandy High vice principal for seven years and spent another six as principal at Boring Middle School.
