Athletic Directors at the 4A and 5A level have approved changes to the OSAA's play-in model, which will shrink the postseason field and move the play-in games to a single week.

At the 5A level, five teams will be cut at the end of the regular season - the bottom two from the 5A North (PIL, NWOC and Columbia River) along with the bottom three from 5A South (Mid-Willamette, Midwestern and Intermountain). The state's RPI rankings will decide which teams are left out of the mix.

The other significant change is the addition of the North and South regions for the play-in matchups, which has been added to cut down on travel for the qualifier games.
