Oregon State Police are investigating the Sept. 25 head-on crash between two vehicles that also caused a motorcycle to swerve into a ditch to avoid a collision.

An initial crash scene investigation by OSP reportedly indicates a 2000 Hyundai driven by Vernonia-resident Nicole Meglen, 21, was northbound on Highway 47 when it crossed into the opposing lane. A 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle with a driver and a passenger apparently had to quickly swerve right to miss the ongoing car. It crashed into a ditch, OSP police report.

Immediately after the motorcycle crashed, a 1992 Volkswagen Jetta driven by 22-year-old William Mashburn, from Forest Grove, reportedly hit the Hyundai head on.

Meglen and Mashburn were sent by ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Motorcycle driver Stanley Miles, 47, and passenger Kathryn McNeil, 59, both from Hillsboro, were sent to Oregon Health & Science University. Miles was treated and released, but McNeil received serious injuries. They were wearing helmets.

Highway 47 near milepost 66, about five miles south of Vernonia, was closed for a few hours following the crash.
