St. Helens is entrenched in third place in the NWOC

by: JEREMY DUECK - St. Helens' Taylor Albertson goes high to block during last week's NWOC match with Sherwood. The Lady Lions lost in five games. The St. Helens Lady Lions have been playing some good volleyball lately, but couldn’t get past Sherwood last week.

St. Helens had a 2-1 lead over the visiting Lady Bowmen on Oct. 2. They won a tight second game and dominated the third game, before losing the last two.

Sherwood won 25-18, 25-27, 13-25, 25-23, 15-9.

The Lady Lions bounced back on Thursday night to rip Parkrose, 25-11, 25-18, 25-19.

The Parkrose match marked the start of the second half in league play.

Just before the Sherwood match, the Lady Lions posted a win at the Parkrose Tournament.

They went through pool play unbeaten--topping Benson 25-20, 25-15; McKay 25-13, 25-12; and The Dalles-Wahtonka, 25-16, 25-20.

They also breezed through the championship round, topping Woodburn 25-20, 25-8; Franklin 25-7, 25-10; and Parkrose, 25-12, 25-19.

Serving included: Kali Moore (43/46), Haley Mann (35/35) and Jillian Ross (66/70). Gabby Susee had 36 kills and Taylor Albertson 31.
