Driver arrested after crashing vehicle fleeing scene of accident
Police have arrested a suspected drunk driver who hit a woman on a scooter and then fled the crash scene Tuesday night.
J. Barclay Zimmerli was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of DUII, Assault in the Fourth Degree, Reckless Driving, and Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver.
The victim, Thanh Nguyen Tran, 28, was transported a Portland hospital with serious injuries.
According to police, at 10:35 p.m. on Oct. 9, Central Precinct officers responded to the report of a hit and run crash at Southeast 17th Avenue and Holgate Boulevard. As the officers were enroute, additional information was received that the suspect vehicle, a silver 1999 Honda CRV SUV, fled the scene westbound on Holgate towards McLoughlin Boulevard.
Officers arrived at the crash scene and found the victim, who was conscious but not very responsive. Medical personnel arrived and transported her to the hospital.
Five minutes after the initial call, an officer enroute to the crash scene located the suspect vehicle crashed into the Darigold property, located at the corner of Southeast Woodward Street and McLoughlin Boulevard. The driver was arrested.
