GIRLS SOCCER - Bruins put up five second-half goals to blank Centennial
by: David Ball Barlow’s Kayley King, 14, battles for the ball with Centennial’s Tara Phanakhone.

The Barlow girls soccer team wanted to make one thing clear on Tuesday night - they are in it to win it in 2011. After finishing fourth in the league tally a year ago, the Bruins are aiming for nothing less than the top of the Mount Hood Conference this time around.

'We felt like we had something to prove,' Barlow coach Jason Hubert said. 'I just got them fired up, and the girls responded.'

Barlow opened the league schedule with a dominating 6-0 home win over Centennial, breaking onto the scoreboard early in the game when Kayley King sent a long ball into the box and Presley Lewis deflected it past the goalie.

The Bruins added five more goals in the second half, including a rush of three over the game's final 10 minutes.
