The Oregon Sports Authority Foundation on Friday, September 9th, awarded a $10,000 grant (in the form of a large ceremonial check) to Grout Elementary School on S.E. Holgate Boulevard, at a student assembly.

Presenter Drew Mahalic explained that the grant was part of the foundation's Healthy Youth Oregon initiative, which awards $10,000 grants to support projects that provide opportunities for student participation in physical activities. The first such grant was made to Franklin High the year before.

This grant will allow Grout Elementary students to experience the benefits of Playworks, a nationwide non-profit organization that 'transforms recess and play into positive experiences to help kids and teachers maximize learning opportunities throughout the school day'.

Accepting the grant was Susan McElroy, Principal.
