Madras Feed and Supply opened June 14, north of town in the old I.P. Callison mint building.
Owners Cindy and Rick Peterson moved to Madras four years ago from Redmond and has been raising cattle and hay on Agency Plains.
"We've through about opening a feed store for years, and always looked at buildings we'd drive by as possible feed stores," said Cindy. After noticing the empty mint building and talking to several Madras business people, they decided to give it a try.
Madras Feed and Supply offers a full line of wild bird seed and suet, and food for domestic birds, small animals like hamsters and gerbils, dogs and cats. Brands in stock include Diamond, Nutro and Tri-Pro, with more brands arriving soon.
The store also has livestock feeds for horses, pigs, cows, sheep, and even pheasants, along with hay and straw.
A selection of minerals, livestock salts, pet and livestock vaccines and medicines, halters, lead ropes, brushes and grooming supplies are on hand. Also a small selection of gardening products, gloves, bird feeders, bird houses, and planters.
The feed store is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, at 1527 NW Harris Street, right off Highway 26, across from the Discount House. The business phone is 475-7900.
