Madras High athletic director Margaret Sturza recommended to the school board that former girls soccer coach Murilo Varela be approved to step in after the departure of former coach Mike Osborne during the summer.
Varela brings experience to the job. He was a soccer coach for six years in the community, last serving at Madras High for the 2000 season.
Varela's hiring still leaves the varsity girls basketball coach position that Osborne also filled open.
