As of Tuesday afternoon, the driver of the Buick sedan, above, Carol Fox, of Madras, was in fair condition at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. Victor Garcia, driver of a Ford van, was in stable condition at Mountain View Hospital.

   A Madras area woman and man were seriously injured Saturday, Feb. 19, when two vehicles collided head-on just south of Madras on U.S. Highway 97.
   At about 10:12 a.m., a 1989 Ford van driven by Victor Garcia, 20, from Madras, was travelling northbound on Highway 97 south of Madras. For unknown reasons, his vehicle crossed into the southbound lane colliding with an oncoming 1996 Buick sedan operated by Carol L. Fox, 56, of Madras.
   Garcia was transported to Mountain View Hospital in Madras. Fox was transported by Airlife helicopter to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.
   The initial investigation indicated safety restraints were in use at the time of the crash.
   Members of the Oregon State Police assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office are continuing the ongoing investigation.
   One lane of Highway 97 remained closed for approximately three hours during the initial investigation. Oregon Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control at the scene.
