m big wins to sizable losses, Culver softball saw it all in nonleague games this week. The busy Bulldogs went 3-2 including a trio of games at the La Pine tourney.
It was all preparation for 2A/1A Special District action, starting up again Monday. Culver beat Perrydale 7-1 to even its league record at 1-1.
The Bulldogs resume league play by traveling to Blanchet in Salem today and to Santiam on Friday.
On Monday, Tiffany Adams led the way by throwing a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts and one walk. Perrydale's lone hit was a single in the fifth inning and a seventh-inning run was unearned.
The Bulldogs jumped ahead 2-0 in the first. Maria Ruiz had three hits while Kaylee Cook added two hits including a double.
At the La Pine tourney, Culver beat Lakeview 14-4 in five innings Thursday. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the first, all thanks to walks, wild pitches and a hit batter.
The rout was on with a seven-run second, capped by a two-run single by Maria Ruiz. The sophomore center fielder later hit a double.
Harrisburg had the early big inning in a 12-1 Friday win. The 3A Eagles scored six times in the first inning to take control.
La Pine used its own big inning, a four-run fourth in a 7-2 victory Saturday.
Culver 12-9, Sheridan 8-2: A pair of three-hit pitching efforts and plenty of offense gave the Bulldogs a nonleague sweep.
Sarah O'Gorman in the opener and Adams in the nightcap kept the Spartan hitters quiet. O'Gorman struck out eight while allowing two walks. Adams followed with 13 strikeouts in the second game.
In the opener, Jessica Pollack led the offense by driving in four runs with four hits. The senior had two doubles and also scored three runs.
Ruiz added two triples while Lindsay Meeks also had two hits.
In the nightcap, Ruiz drilled two doubles and a triple, driving in a pair of runs. Adams hit two doubles while Marissa Kovach added two hits.
