by: David Ball Gresham’s Irene Medina beats Oregon City forward Lauren Thompson to a ball near the sideline during the Gophers’ 1-0 qualifier win Tuesday.

The Gresham girls soccer team dominated overtime Tuesday night to knock off visiting Oregon City 1-0 in the 6A play-in round.

The Gophers got the winning goal with 9:05 to play when Staci Tatum lined up for a free kick at the edge of the 18-yard box and sent a laser toward the center of the goal. The shot beat the goalie up high, but clinking into the cross bar and came out. But teammate Jessie Stone was in position to clean it up with a quick header into the right side of the net.

'I was trying to shoot it, but my hope was that if it came back out we'd have someone there to put it in,' Tatum said. 'There was a lot of pressure and it all came down to that overtime.'
