Annual event welcomes all skill levels
Looking for a cheap way to be entertained this weekend?
Lake Billy Chinook is the place to be this weekend, as the area's finest wake boarders and water skiers will compete during the annual Sundance Water Sports wake boarding and water skiing competition to be held at 10 a.m. each day July 21 and 22.
"This is an event for people wanting to have a good time," said Russ Brewer of Sundance Water Sports. "We want people to come and ride of all skill levels."
Held on the Crooked River arm on Lake Billy Chinook, the competition will feature divisions for novice riders to expert riders.
"This is more of a friendly competition," Brewer said. "We've set this up to be spectator friendly and everyone always seems to have a good time."
Registration for participants begins at 8:30 a.m. each day and the action begins at 10 a.m. Wake boarding will take place Saturday, and water skiing will take place Sunday. Registration fee is $30 and each competitor will receive a T-shirt.
"We just want to encourage people to come and play," Brewer said. "A lot of people just come and anchor down and watch, and the more boats, the better it is for our riders."
A barbecue will follow the action Saturday at Cove Palisades Resort and Marina at 4 p.m., and the Melody Butchers will play live music from 8-11 p.m. at the marina.
