Cascades East Transit, Central Oregon's regional public transportation system, and the cities of Madras, Metolius, and Culver are co-hosting a series of public meetings on the future of transit in Jefferson County.
The meeting schedule and topics are:
. Sept. 27, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Madras Central Oregon Community College Campus (1170 E. Ashwood Road), Public Transportation in Madras.
. Oct. 2, at 12 p.m. at the Jefferson County Senior Center, Public Transportation for Seniors.
. Oct. 2, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Metolius City Hall, Public Transportation in Metolius and Culver.
The purpose of the meetings is to work with community members to determine short- and long-term community public transportation priorities, to identify the most appropriate transit service, and to discuss the best way for each community to sustain transit.
The meetings will provide information about transit services in the community, but are designed to emphasize dialogue and discussion with attendees to find out what they want from transit over the short and long term.
"Our goal -- and the goal of our community partners -- is to find out what different types of community members want from transit, and how they think it should be sustained over time," said Scott Aycock, CET transportation planner.
"The outcome of this meeting will have direct influence over long-term transit service in Madras, Metolius, and Culver," he added.
Cascades East Transit currently offers local public bus service Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., to all citizens within Madras, Culver and Metolius. Community Connector shuttles connect Madras, Culver and Metolius to Redmond and all Central Oregon cities, Monday through Friday.
