by: Photo by Susan Matheny - Retired Navy commander Ellis Skidmore wore his original officer's uniform to celebrate his 91st birthday with bridge club members at the Jefferson County Senior Center.

Madras resident Ellis Skidmore and his wife Elaine recently celebrated his 91st birthday with friends at the Bridge Club which meets twice a week at the Jefferson County Senior Center.
   To mark the occasion, the Skidmores brought a birthday cake and retired Navy commander Skidmore wore his original white uniform.
   "His birthday is Oct. 31, and he retired from the Navy 50 years ago this Oct. 31," his wife noted.
   A veteran of World War II, Skidmore served as an aviation radioman second class during the Battle of Midway, and went on to become a naval aviation pilot.
