6A FOOTBALL - West Salem pours it on early, hangs on for 42-28 win

Barlow fought to the final ticks on the clock, but couldn't erase a 21-point hole during its 42-28 loss to West Salem in the opening round of the OSAA 6A football playoffs Friday night.

The Bruins found themselves down 21-0 barely five minutes into the game after West Salem's Brenden Shaffer returned the opening kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown. After a quick defensive stop, halfback Brandon Harrell went 49 yards up the middle on the Titans first play from scrimmage.

West Salem wasn't done.

The Titans recovered an onside kick and worked their way downfield with Shaffer finishing the drive on a 1-yard sneak into the end zone....
