Robert 'Bob' Paul Canoso

Gresham resident Robert 'Bob' Paul Canoso died Saturday, Nov. 12.

A private celebration of his life was held.

Bob was born Jan. 6, 1941, in Kemmerer, Wyo., to Frank and Lucille Canoso. He graduated from North Bend High School in 1959 and joined the Navy. After serving four years in the Navy, Bob returned to North Bend and began working for GTE. In 1970, his job took him to Gresham, where he lived for more than 40 years.

After nearly 20 years together, Bob married Mary Stewart in 1997.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and rock collecting. In retirement, he fished nearly every day. Bob also loved spending time with his family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his son, Sargon Canoso, and sister, Tonya 'Tona' Canoso.

Survivors include his wife; son, Travis Canoso of Medford; daughters, Amy Valenti of Seattle, Blaine Anderson of Gresham and Catherine Edington of Hillsboro; sister, Liz Lehr of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Orma Ruth Robertson

July 12, 1935-Nov. 16, 2011

East County resident Orma Ruth Robertson died Wednesday, Nov. 16, at her home surrounded by her family. She was 76.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, at Bateman Carroll. Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Orma was born July 12, 1935, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Percy and Ada (McLean) Hanberg. She was raised and educated in British Columbia, Canada, and moved to Oregon in 1954.

On Nov. 6, 1956, she married Glenn W. Robertson in Portland.

Orma was a homemaker for most of her adult life. She took great pride in caring for her family and many friends who needed a helping hand. She also worked in retail sales at City Liquidators on and off for 10 years. Orma's garden and her family were a source of happiness.

Her husband and her daughter, Sheri Macy, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Ronald Robertson of Troutdale and Debbie Charpentier of Spokane, Wash.; brother, Lloyd Hanberg of British Columbia; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Marvin Bernard Berenson

March 31, 1937-Nov. 11, 2011

Troutdale resident Marvin Bernard Berenson, 74, died Friday, Nov. 11.

A private service will be held.

Marvin was born March 31, 1937, in Boston to Robert Berson and Jennie Berenson. He served in the Air Force from 1954 to 1962. He graduated magna cum laude from Towson University in Maryland, where he was a member of Phi Theta Kappa.

On July 2, 1958, he married Barbara Esther Fisher.

Marvin worked in finance. His hobbies included golf.

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Berenson, and his sister, Diane Berenson.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Kevin Berenson of Gresham, Darryl Berenson of Loxahatchee, Fla., and Michel Berenson of Middletown, Ohio; daughters, Diana Huntzleman of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jeanette Motter of Columbus, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Jacqueline Marie Rhett

May 5, 1943-Nov. 15, 2011

Fairview resident Jacqueline Marie Rhett, 68, died Tuesday, Nov. 15.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 S.E. Mount Scott Blvd., Portland. Flowers should be delivered to the cemetery before the service.

Jacqueline was born May 5, 1943, in Portland to Howard and Blanche (House) Rothe. She was raised in Gresham and graduated from Reynolds High School.

On May 12, 1960, she married Daniel B. Rhett. They raised their four children in the Gresham area.

Jacqueline volunteered in the soup kitchen at Trinity Lutheran Church and at the Gresham Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, holidays and interior decorating. She also loved spending time with her family, traveling, scenic drives and going to the beach.

Her husband preceded her in death July 1, 1989.

Survivors include her daughters, Cheryl Wilson of Gresham, Starlene Richard of Sandy and Natalie Bachman of Gresham; son, Rodney Rhett of Gresham; mother, Blanche Rothe-Davis of Gresham; brother, A. Earl Rothe of Fairview; sisters, Patricia Cornish of Wood Village and Jeanette Lucky of Corbett; and eight grandchildren.

Aftercare Cremation and Burial Service is handling arrangements.

James O. Shepherd

Dec. 9, 1932-Nov. 17, 2011

Former Gresham resident James O. Shepherd, 78, died Thursday, Nov. 17, in Sandy.

No services will be held.

James was born Dec. 9, 1932, in Cumberland, Ky., to Delmas and Sylvania Shepherd.

In 1952, he married Shirley Kilgore in Wise, Va., and they moved to Gresham in 1954. Shirley died in 1956 after a long illness.

In 1957, he married Leona Freisheim. She preceded him in death in 2007.

Survivors include his son, Robert Shepherd of Deer Park, Texas; daughters, Patti Shepherd of Fairview, Susan Shepherd of Hermiston and Nancy Shepherd of Sandy; and five grandchildren.

Sidney Gorton

Oct. 16, 1921-Nov. 17, 2011

Gresham resident Sidney Gorton died Thursday, Nov. 17. He was 90.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd.

Sidney was born Oct. 16, 1921, in Kalispell, Mont., to Harrison and Ora (Butterfield) Gorton. Sidney graduated from Flathead County High School in Kalispell in 1939 and attended business school in Portland.

Sidney served in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific, where he was a member of the 41st Division Band.

On Jan. 13, 1946, he married Monty Gunderson in Camas, Wash.

Sidney worked for most of his life in the heating and refrigeration supply business. He was a Portland resident since 1946 and resided in Gresham for the last five years.

Sidney's hobbies included gardening, hunting, fishing, golfing (after his retirement), traveling in his motor home and music. He played trumpet in dance bands.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Jack, and his sister, Marge.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Charmalee Drew of Kalispell and Karen Lapeyre of Gresham; and two grandchildren.
