by: Eric Norberg On the first day of construction -- December 7th -- part of the block of S.E. 17th in Westmoreland had already been removed, down to the dirt. The concrete underlayment responsible for the failure is visible in the cut at left.

The City of Portland Bureau of Transportation advised on November 30th that a street closure would be necessary on S.E. 17th Avenue in Westmoreland between Yukon and Tolman Streets beginning Wednesday, December 7.

It was to continue through Friday, December 23 - at all hours and in all days.

The closure, said PDOT spokesperson Cheryl Kuck, was necessary 'to repair the failed concrete road base under the asphalt surface.'

The public was advised to expect delays, to travel cautiously, and to observe all work zone signage during construction.
