Columbia River Fire and Rescue personnel responded to a Friday evening non-injury fire on Dec. 23 in Columbia City involving a 20-foot aluminum fishing boat and a Toyota Prius.
Firefighters arriving at the scene reported seeing the boat and car fully engulfed in flames. The vehicles were parked side-by-side in the driveway of a home located at 620 H Street. The house was located around 40 feet from the fire and was not damaged.
Crews quickly extinguished the fire and remained on the scene for an hour putting out hot spots, according to a CRF and R press release.
CRF and R Division Chief Brian Burright said the fire does not appear to be suspicious, adding that a space heater discovered aboard the 'fairly new' boat being used to combat dampness is a possible cause. The fire is still under investigation.
