>White Tigers defeat Cascade Locks, fall big to Dufur, but play well
The Crook County Christian/Central Christian girls basketball team split a pair of league games last weekend, defeating Cascade Locks at home and then falling to Dufur on the road.
"We shot the ball a little better from outside," said Head Coach Derrick Butcher about the team's win on Friday. "We played good enough to win."
The White Tigers were up 15 to 10 at the end of the first quarter and held the lead throughout the game as they defeated the Pirates 41 to 32. Amanda Zubrick and Rachel Hargreaves led the team in scoring with 12 points apiece, while Mikayla Ryan led Cascade Locks with 10.
On Saturday the White Tigers played perennial league power Dufur and did not fare so well on the scoreboard, falling 59 to 60. Dufur jumped on top 21 to 6 in the first quarter and the White Tigers were never able to get any closer.
"It was probably the best game we have played all year," said Butcher. "They are a good team and we hustled and played the best we can play. In the third quarter we played well enough that their coach put his starters back in briefly. It was like a win for us. There were several people from their crowd who came up to us after the game and told us how well we played."
The Dufur Rangers were led in scoring for the night by Kayla Ruffett with 15 points while Makenzie Henderson chipped in 10. Hargreaves led the White Tigers with 14 and according to Butcher played an outstanding game.
The White Tigers had their scheduled game with South Wasco County High School postponed for the second time last Tuesday due to bad weather in Maupin.
The White Tigers will now face the Redsides on the road on Monday, Jan. 28, in a makeup game and then play them again the next night at home in a regularly scheduled league contest at Crook County Middle the Sherman County Huskies with a 6 p.m. tip off at Crook County Middle School. They travel to Nixyaawii on Saturday for a 2:30 start. The two games are critical if the White Tigers (2-4) in league, wish to keep their playoff hopes alive.
