On Saturday, March 1, more than 40 wrestlers from Crook County Middle School went to a state qualifier tournament at Mountain View High School in Bend.
   Nine wrestlers qualified for the state tournament in Woodburn this last weekend.
   At the qualifying tournament Eric Martin placed first in the 75-pound weight class. Grayson Munn was fourth at 80-pounds, McKennan buckner was first at 85-pounds, Michael Cruz was third at 115-pounds. His twin brother Antonio Cruz was second at 122-pounds. Gunner Crawford qualified by placing fourth at 145-pounds and Bryson Martin was second at 165-pounds. Rhett Smith was second at 195-pounds and Brandon Wood was fourth at 275-pounds.
   "The coaching staff was extremely pleased with the wrestlers we took to the qualifier," said Head Coach Rob Bonner. "They wrestled tough and we had several kids miss the state meet by one match."
   At the state tournament this past weekend the Cowboy wrestlers took second place overall with a team score of 105.5 points.
   Sandstone from Hermiston won the meet with a score of 146 points. A team from Crater was third with 91 points and Obsidian Middle School from Redmond was fourth with 88 points.
   Individually McKennan Buckner was the state champion at 85-pounds. Antonio Cruz was third at 122-pounds, Bryson Martin was third at 195-pounds and Rhett Smith was second at 195-pounds.
   Eric Martin, Gunner Crawford and Michael Cruz all missed placing by one match.
   "The kids were just amazing," said Bonner.
