The Woodburn boys soccer team finished their non-conference schedule on a strong note after handing the visiting Glencoe?Crimson Tide a 7-2 loss Thursday.

Although the game saw the return of all-state senior forward Michael Hobson from a sprained knee, it was the team’s freshmen who contributed most to the victory.

First-year players Connor Karseboom and Kevin Vasquez led the team with two scores each, while fellow freshman Anthony Santillan added a score of his own.

Sophomore Armando Reyes added another score, and Hobson rounded it out with a goal to give the Bulldogs (4-1-2) their largest margin of victory of the season.

With the team’s non-conference games complete, Woodburn is set to travel to South?Albany High School Thursday for the league opener for both teams.

The Rebels (6-0-1) are ranked sixth in the state after cruising through their non-conference schedule, picking up four shutout victories in the process.

The Bulldogs played South Albany to a 3-2 win last year, though the win was credited as a forfeit by South?Albany due to the Rebels having an ineligible coach.
