by: WOODBURN INDEPENDENT ARCHIVES - St. Paul senior Sara Pierson garnered an Honorable Mention award last season for her play with the Buckaroos.Coach: Mike Murphy (third year)

Last year: St. Paul finished third in the 1A state tournament after winning 24 games and finishing with the team’s best overall record (24-6) since the Bucks’ 2007 state championship team. The Buckaroos were 13-1 in league, winning the Casco Conference for the sixth time in nine years.

Key athlete: Sara Pierson

Key losses: Natalie Stone, Katie Jo Coleman, Sarah McKay

First home game: Dec. 10 vs. Valley Catholic

Outlook: The Buckaroos must find a way to rebuild after losing two-time Casco Player of the Year Natalie Stone to graduation, along with four other seniors from last year’s team. Traditionally, the Bucks have been a Casco League power, failing to qualify for the postseason just once in the past nine seasons. Honorable Mention senior Sara Pierson leads the way for this year’s Bucks, a team that features seniors Carolina Ruvalcaba and Jessica Wilmes, along with a host of players looking to fill the void left by the 2013 graduating class.
