by: PHOTO COURTESY: CCC - 'Pareidoli,' the title of the new exhibit in the Alexander Gallery at Clackamas Community College in Oregon CIty, also is the title of this painting by Zachary Andersen, pictured above.“Pareidoli” consists of about 30 mixed-media paintings that explore ideas of facial recognition within grander compositional landscapes. Historically, the term pareidoli has straddled art and religion, including in the works of Giuseppe Arcimboldo and Wenzel Hollar. “Pareidoli” is a contemporary exploration led by David Raphael Andersen, who teaches painting and drawing at CCC.

An artists’ reception is scheduled from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in the gallery in the Niemeyer Center at CCC, with an artists’ talk at 1 p.m. The free exhibit runs through March 20 and also includes recent works by David Raphael Andersen, Zachary Andersen, Carl Beaulieu, Derrick Bogue, Morgan Buck, Holly Osborne and Justin Montgomery. It is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the exception of campus holidays.
