- Portland Tribune - News
One person was killed Wednesday evening in a head-on collision on Interstate 405.
Portland police said 52-year-old Heidi Esping of Portland died in the accident at about 7:25 p.m. on the northbound ramp from I-405 to Highway 30.
Police said a 2007 Mazda CX7 sport utility vehicle was traveling south in the northbound lanes of the Highway 30 exit from I-405 and collided nearly head-on with a 2011 Freightliner semi-tractor pulling two trailers. The crash occurred in the left lane, nearest the median.
Esping was driving the Mazda and likely died on impact. The driver of the Freightliner truck, 45-year-old David Molnar, did not suffer any injuries and is cooperating with investigators. A passenger in the Freightliner, 43-year-old Paul Pinkson, was taken to an area hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening.
No citations have been issued.
The exit from I-405 to Highway 30 was closed for about five hours during the accident investigation.
