The supposed Brandon Roy controversy amounted to nothing Thursday night, as Roy and the Trail Blazers did something significantly good.

At home for the first time in the 2011 NBA playoffs, Roy led a revived Portland bench with 16 points and the Blazers won the fourth quarter for the first time in the series, beating Dallas 97-92 at the Rose Garden.

Roy made 6 of 10 shots from the field and added four assists in 24 minutes, and the Blazers outscored the Mavericks 22-20 over the final 12 minutes after leading 75-72 through three quarters.

Roy had expressed frustration over his limited playing time in Game 2, and his comments became a national story, as many Blazer fans fretted that their team would be distracted or wracked with dissension. All the talk and worries, which somehow left out other important details about the Portland-Dallas matchup, became much ado about very little.

The Blazers can tie the best-of-seven series at 2-2 by beating the Mavs again in Game 4, which is 2 p.m. Saturday at the Rose Garden.

Dallas pulled within 95-92 with 12.9 seconds to go with a late surge; the Mavs had trailed 87-74 with less than eight minutes remaining.

Andre Miller sank two free throws with 9.5 seconds left to increase Portland's lead to two possessions. Mavericks guard Jason Kidd missed a 3 to end the visitors' hopes.

Portland guard Wesley Matthews started fast and led the home team with 25 points. He scored 16 of the Blazers' first 22 points.

LaMarcus Aldridge had 20 points, Miller scored 16, Gerald Wallace led all rebounders with 11 and Marcus Camby added 10 boards and helped the Blazers' interior defense control much of what Dallas tried to do inside.

For Dallas, Jason Terry had 29 points and Dirk Nowitzki 25. Foul-ridden Dallas center Tyson Chandler got six personals and managed just two points and four rebounds in 15 minutes.
