McMenamins party yields presents for all
by: ©2008 AUTUMN DE WILDE, Contrary to their name, the Long Winters promise to bring some sunshine to the Crystal Ballroom on Sunday.

It's a surefire bet that this is the most rocking 94th birthday party you'll be invited to this year.

The grand Crystal Ballroom celebrates another year of existence with its annual free-for-all - a daylong event that includes music, tours, tastings and fun for the kids.

This year, indie rock darlings the Long Winters and rambunctious, twang-pop purveyor Bobby Bare Jr. join in the festivities with rare all-ages appearances.

The Crystal also will give three local festival/organizations the chance to strut their stuff.

Musicfest NW, Pickathon and the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls will display their unique contributions to the local music scene with handpicked showcases.

For those whose tastes don't run toward rock and roll, there will be marimba bands, a gypsy dance troupe, bluegrass, folk and much more.
